While it still may be early, the 2010 World Series of Poker (WSOP) main event featured two ladies among the top 10 chip leaders.  Aside from the 2007 World Series of Poker Europe main event, no woman has ever made the final table of the WSOP main event.  One of the more exciting features of the main event in recent years has been anticipation surrounding the "last woman standing". 

Sasha Rosewood and Vanessa Selbst were the two women holding the number 7 and number 8 chip count spots, respectively, heading into Sunday’s play.

The 2008 World Series of Poker champion Peter Eastgate is retiring from the world of poker according to the Associated Press.

"I was bored of the game, lacking motivation, did not need the money any more so saw no point in continuing," Peter Eastgate told The Associated Press in a Facebook message on Wednesday. "In case I return, it will be because I need an income again or because I am bored doing nothing."

Eastgate told the AP he has no immediate plans and isn’t sure what he will do next.

A 24-year-old Danish poker player who won $9.15 million at the 2008 World Series of Poker main event. 

"When I started playing poker for a living, it was never my goal to spend the rest of my life as a professional poker player," Eastgate said.

One of the most famous female players, Jennifer Tilly, found herself out of the 2010 World Series of Poker (WSOP) main event quite early in Day 2.

Tilly is also one of the most notable celebrity poker players who has appeared in such classic films as Bride of Chucky, Pigs Next Store, Bound and Seed of Chucky.

Her total live tournament career winnings to date are just under $500,000.  She has one WSOP bracelet from 2005 when Tilly won Event #26 – WSOP Ladies – No Limit Hold’em. 

Other notable exits on Tuesday included Erick Lindgren, who has over $6.7 million in live tournament career winnings and one WSOP bracelet. <

A Peruvian judge has ruled that the initial confession of murder suspect Joran van der Sloot will stand up in a court of law

The 21-year-old Dutchman accused of killing a Peruvian university student while attending the Latin American Poker Tour in Lima, Peru, is to be judged by his initial confession.

Joran van der Sloot admitted to killing Stephany Flores in his hotel room a few weeks ago but has since recanted and claimed that his confession should not hold since there was not an interpreter in the room.  That said, van der Sloot went into full gory detail of the events, suggesting he understood the questions being asked of him. 

A Peruvian judge on Friday denied a defense motion to void the confession because the attorney representing him at the time was state-appointed.

Superior Court Judge Wilder Casique rejected the habeus corpus motion on behalf of Van der Sloot, who is jailed pending trial on charges of first-degree murder and robbery in the May 30 death in his hotel room of Flores, whom he met playing poker in a casino.

As this year’s installment of the poker world’s crown jewel, the World Series of Poker 2010, enters its 3rd week, just about half of this year’s coveted bracelets have been awarded. As is usually the case this time of year, new and intriguing storylines emerge on a daily basis as established pros and green amateurs set out to capture their own piece of glory. Thus far, the bracelet winners represent some household names and other virtual unknowns.

Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi essentially kicked things off by outlasting one of the toughest tournament fields ever in the $50,000 Players Championship, which included him knocking out his brother Robert in 5th place.

Joran van der Sloot, the prime suspect in the disappearance of Natalie Holloway, is being sought in the Sunday killing of 21-year-old Stephany Flores in a Lima hotel.  Van der Sloot was in Peru taking part in a poker tournament, presumably the Latin American Poker Tour (or LAPT), which was kicking off this week in Lima.

The Dutch government said Interpol has issued an international arrest warrant for Van der Sloot in the stabbing death of 21-year-old Stephany Flores.  He had reportedly fled the country to Chile.

Van der Sloot appears with the young woman in a video taken at a Lima casino early Sunday just prior to her slaying. <

"Is this the start of an increase in such activity across the board?" he asks.

Gambling911.com is learning that next week’s i-Gaming Affiliate Super Show in Prague will include discussions between various affiliate Web portals and online gambling operators related to potential acquisition deals.
