Argentina sprints for online gambling regulation

The announcement by the Argentinian Presidential Cabinet Chief Anibal Fernandez recently that Argentina was about to switch to a more sensible regulatory strategy for online gambling has been followed by further information that the legislation has been approved.

Generating urgency in the surprisingly fast process is the fact that the government has taken over the broadcast rights for the Asociacion del Futbol Argentino – the country’s football governing body – for around $154 million in a bid to save many of the clubs facing bankruptcy and financial ruin.

Imega loses New Jersey UIGEA case

The Interactive Media Entertainment & Gaming Association has lost it’s New Jersey case against the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act in the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Philadelphia following a ruling by a panel of three judges.

The appeal court upheld the UIGEA, rejecting a challenge from iMEGA that the federal prohibition was too imprecise in its definition of illegal gambling transaction and violated privacy rights. The ruling dashes hopes that a favourable outcome may have brought New Jersey a step closer to legalising online gambling at state level.

The 2006 federal law, which prohibits ‘illegal’ financial transactions with online gambling companies, was defended vigorously by the US Department of Justice last month.

Update on S 1597 Bill for Legalizing Online Poker

In August, Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) introduced S 1597, the Internet Poker and Games of Skill Regulation, Consumer Protection, and Enforcement Act. Menendez’s measure calls for the licensing and regulation of internet games of skill like online poker in an effort that is narrower than Congressman Barney Frank’s (D-MA) HR 2267, the Internet Gambling Regulation, Consumer Protection, and Enforcement Act. The bill includes provisions to address problem gambling. At the end of Menendez’s legislation, $14.2 million per year over a five-year period is prescribed for problem gambling awareness, treatment, and research.

The Poker Players Alliance (PPA), the 1.2 million member strong lobbying group, was one of the driving forces behind the introduction of S 1597, which debuted shortly after the conclusion of National Poker Week.

Arizona Cardinals 2010 Super Bowl Betting Odds – 08-30-09

August 30 – 2009 could yet be another excellent year for a Cardinals outfit that looks every bit as convincing now as it did at the end of the 2008 season.

The Cardinals head into 2009 looking just as strong as they did last year, perhaps even better but they must overcome a lot of negative history that is against them.

The Cardinals are a20-1 long shot at most bookmakers sites to pull off a win inSuper Bowl XLIV.

Like most teams, they have gone though a number of off-season changes, and th biggest is the loss of two members of the coaching staff: Todd Haley and Clancy Pendergast.

On the positive side though, Chris Warner re-signed,although the defensive line will have their work cut out to protect his 38 year old body.

Fans will be hoping that Warner can findLarry Fitzgerald (arguably the best wide receive in the game) with regularity.

Semenya a Man or Woman: Odds Posted

First it was recording artist Lady Gaga where an online bookmaker posted odds on whether she was a man or woman, now comes word that Sportsbook.com has posted odds on the gender of runner Semenya.

"We are opening odds on whether tests will come out man or woman or other," reveals Dave Stanley, Spokesperson for Sportsbook.com.

Will she test as entirely female?

Yes -250

No +175

"I guess if she is packing both, the No is the winner," said Stanley.

The IAAF has asked the South African athletics federation to conduct a gender verification test on 800-meter runner Caster Semenya amid concerns she does not meet the requirements to compete as a woman.

The 18-year-old Semenya won the 800 final on Wednesday at the world championships in a world leading 1 minute, 55.45 seconds, beating defending champion Janeth Jepkosgei by a massive 2.45 seconds. Je

Michael Vick Betting Props Now Offered

Sportsbook.com has released a series of Michael Vick betting props following the announcement Thursday that the former Atlanta Falcons quarterback had signed with the Philadelphia Eagles.

For those thinking Vick will start any game of the 2009 regular season, oddsmakers say otherwise.

"We made Vick a near 3/1 (+275) odds underdog to start as quarterback," said Dave Stanley, Spokesperson for Sportsbook.com.

Other betting props include what the first pass from Vick will be and whether Vick will still be on the Eagles roster by Week 17.  The "Yes" is a huge favorite.

Longtime Eagles fans we spoke to here at Gambling911.com were not at all happy with the prospect of Michael Vick joining their beloved team, though this is in no way a scientific survey.

"I felt like puking!" said one.

Be sure to place your Michael Vick betting props at Sportsbook.com.
