Online gambling software developer Playtech chose April 1st as the launch date for its new real-money action Italian online bingo network. The company has already established a significant presence in the Italian market with the successful iPoker.it network, and its latest Bingo venture has been designed to fully comply with Italy’s gaming regulator, the Amministrazione Autonoma dei Monopoli di Stato (AAMS).

The launch of the bingo network in real money mode follows several successful months of operation in fun mode. With existing operators migrating to real money mode, and more hopefully joining in the near future, Playtech’s bingo network is set to become a major player in the growing Italian market.

The Swedish and Malta-based online gambling software provider Net Entertainment has landed another juicy contract for its CasinoModule product in the Italian market. Gioco Digitale, the major Italian subsidiary of Vienna-listed Bwin, is to use CasinoModule on the dedicated Italian sites of both Bwin and Gioco Digitale, which are claimed to command an Italian market share of 25%.

“The license agreement with Net Entertainment gives us access to a wide range of market leading casino games which is an important focus area for our continued growth”, said Paolo di Feo, General Director for Gioco Digitale this week.

A new independent survey on Internet gambling in Canada and the United States, conducted by Ipsos Reid, shows that respondents were less clear on the legality issue than before. In 2007, 41% of Americans and 28% of Canadians said they knew online gambling was illegal. In 2010, that dropped to 37% of Americans and 23% of Canadians.

The online survey, which was conducted between January 4 and 7 this year and surveyed 1,006 people in the U.S. and 1,032 Canadians, has an estimated margin of error of 3.05 to 3.09 percentage points.

Half of Americans (49%) and slightly more than half of Canadians (55%) are willing to permit Internet gambling as long as government regulations are in place.

A forty million pound betting bonanza is on the cards ahead of the Cheltenham Gold Cup, according to English bookmaker Ladbrokes. The bookies are expecting a record-breaking climax to the racing Festival as stablemates Kauto Star and Denman prepare to go head-to-head in the big race of the week.

The fierce rivalry has divided opinion – and prompted a third successive year of mammoth punting.

Berlin police have released a suspect they believed to have been involved in a much publicized poker robbery last Saturday.  They initially believed he and three other men stormed the European Poker Tour Berlin tournament held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, making off with 240,000 euros. 

A spokeswoman for Berlin police – who did not give her name in keeping with department policy – said the suspect had been set free due to a lack of evidence. T
